The Rocks District landscape consists of remarkably uniform slope, aspect and elevation. The appellation is the second smallest in Oregon. Legal parcels are also small in this exclusive Agriculture zone. Vineyard farming practices and training forms are being driven of late by the climatic eccentricities of the region; (both extreme cold and hot temperature conditions more frequently being experienced), as well as the deposits of rocks and gravels found throughout the appellation in support of drainage and deep root systems. (Most all early plantings were on their own roots. Most all new vineyard is being planted on rootstock.)
